parpusa mixtape
dance / 20 min
parpusa mixtape is a contemporary dance piece about madrid, our city, its past and its present. about how we experience it from the inside its living creature's heartbeat, between tradition and evolution, enduring and enjoying at the same time the incongruities of its nature. about how the chotis gives way to electronic music and vice versa in an infinite cycle that makes madrid what it is.
the city envelops us, transforms us and defines us. its character permeates the cultural and social fabric of its inhabitants. its geography differentiates and marks us. and its history runs through us. it has a past, it has a present and it has a future, and we are no strangers to it. on the same streets where we walk countless events took place. culture and tradition are the accumulated sediment of millions of human beings who lived in the same place before us. their decisions, like grains of sand, shaped an image, an identity, a way of understanding ourselves. we want to vindicate this tradition as something contemporary, which flows directly into our lives, our routines and hobbies as young people in a globalized world. it is not something dead and stagnant, or a relic of the past: even if we do not realize it, the past influences us and defines us in a subtle but decisive way.
